The people of the port city now have the most modern laboratory facility at their door steps, with the establishment of Rs.1.5 Crore ‘Medilabs’ by a consortium, according to Dr Vadrevu Ravi.
At a press conference here on Wednesday, he said that the lab was the first of its kind in the coastal districts and equipped with latest machines and also having telemedicine wing.
“The patients need not go to metropolitan cities either for consultation or for medical tests. They can have direct contact with the specialist doctors of corporate hospitals over the on-line system and avail their medical advice sitting in the lab here,” he added.
The latest equipment installed in the lab, he said, include the biochemistry analyser, Horiba hematology analyser, Yorco incubator, fluorescent microscope and Bact alert 3D system.

Dr Ravi said the aim in starting the lab was to make available the advanced technologies for speedy detection of vital diseases such as dengue fever,
TB bacillus and blood cancer. V Krishnamurthy, assistant manager of Space Telemedicine, were also present.
